A private transfer on the expressway takes about 5 hours. For longer stays, a popular and more comfortable option is the overnight sleeper train to Lao Cai, then a short transfer.
The record-breaking cable car reaches the summit of Fansipan, Indochina’s highest peak, in about 15 minutes. No trekking is needed, but multi-day treks are still popular with active travellers.
September to November brings golden ripening rice terraces and clear skies. March to May is green and mild. December to February is cold, with rare mountain frost or snow.
